What Happens At An Appointment

When you come to the Counselling Centre for your appointment, let the receptionist know that you've arrived. If your counsellor is in another appointment, you may be asked to take a seat in our waiting area. Your counsellor will come through to the reception and invite you through to his/her office. The office is private and the consultation is confidential within certain limits.

Your counsellor will ask you to describe what you would like to talk about. You and your counsellor may discuss what outcomes you would like to achieve and how counselling can help. Your counsellor may ask questions and will help you to explore alternatives and possibilities that are open to you and possibly other ways of approaching the situation. You might also discuss strategies and new things to try, or new information that may help the situation.

At the end of the session you may discuss whether a follow-up appointment would be useful.

If you would like further information on any topic, ask your counsellor during your appointment. They will be able to refer you to sources of information that may be useful, or you might like to try the Online Help or Useful Links sections of this website.
