Get up and go
Feeling down, stressed, or just unmotivated?
Finding it hard to get moving on your own?
Take a positive step this Semester by joining “Get Up and Go”!!!
Get Up and Go is peer support walking program for all ANU students offered by the counselling centre. It involves linking you up with another student who has volunteered to be a walking buddy. The two of you then arrange to go walking on a weekly basis. This provides opportunities for regular exercise and social contact which can be a great way to manage your mental health and wellbeing.
More Information for participants is available here(pdf)
Participant registration is online here: https://apollo.anu.edu.au/default.asp?pid=6217
Interested in being a volunteer walking partner?
Get Up and Go volunteers are undergraduate or postgraduate students who wish to make a positive contribution to the ANU community. They are walking partners, not counsellors, so are not required to have specialist counselling skills. They do however have qualities including: enthusiasm for walking, enjoy talking to others; warm and friendly nature; good listening skills; and willing to volunteer an hour a week during term.
The Counselling Centre provides volunteers with training and ongoing support to assist them in their role. Training includes: introduction to Get Up and Go; mental health literacy and first aid; listening skills; introduction to ANU student services; maintaining boundaries; and self care.
Volunteer Training Sessions: Training for Semester 1 volunteers has been completed. Volunteeer training programs will happen again and will be posted here in early Semester 2.
